Obaid KhanM.Sc., B.E., FIEAust, CPEng, NER, PMP Mott MacDonald Australia Khairulzaman KamarulzamanBIT(Hons), MIET, MSaRS Mott MacDonald Australia This paper offers a detailed FRMCS integrated migration strategy as a preparatory guide for current GSM-R users, particularly Rail Transport Operators (RTOs), as well as for projects in the planning and development stages. To move from the current GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway) system to the planned FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System), this paper offers a thorough migration method. Rail Transport Operators (RTOs) and projects in the planning and development phases are the main subjects of interest. The plan places a strong emphasis on important concepts for a smooth transition, such as giving train migration to FRMCS top priority, making long-term plans, and coordinating with different railway community members. The European Union Agency for Railways has recognised FRMCS as a game-changer. Its mission is to provide the industry with cutting-edge communication technology to meet aspirational objectives like greater connection, digitization, and interoperability. It is recommended that railway operators initiate preparation ahead of time to guarantee a smooth transition and fully utilise the capabilities of FRMCS. |
