2024 - March - Moore - Signalling Principles - What are they and where do they come from? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Trevor MooreB.Eng., MBA Eng. Mgt., Hon FIRSE, F Eng. Aust. JMDR The term signalling principles is often referenced with regards to the design of a signalling system. It is also used as part of the title of a person ‘Principles Verifier’ or ‘Principles Tester’. Some rail managers also reference signalling principles within their design standards. These principles appear to vary between rail managers. From time to time there is the introduction of new principles by a rail manager. The variation of signalling principles between rail managers is not well understood or documented as to the reasons. There are also many technical issues within standards and procedures that are not referenced as being signalling principles. In this paper I have detailed my view of what are signalling principles and where they come from. I have also detailed how the introduction of new technology affects the application of signalling principles. |
