We are all familiar with the visible components of transport – the busy terminals, extensive marshalling yards and a variety of rolling stock, including the latest designs in locomotives which never fail to hold the attention of he public and the admiration of the schoolboy. Behind the scenes, there is always another story, not quite so colourful, but not less impressive in its contribution to the transport facilities of the State.

The more complicated and widespread transport operations become, the more the administration is dependent on modern communications. It is essential that those in control should never lose touch with the fleets of vehicles and staff moving throughout the cities and the country.
