The Brisbane Suburban Electrification Project commenced in 1975 and is programmed for completion by the end of 1983. This project has encompassed electrification at 25kV, together with resignalling under centralized control from Control Centre complex at Mayne.
This paper examines the two different types of remote control system employed, that for the Signalling and that for the Traction Power Control. These system have differing man-machine interfaces and differing hardware arrangements, due to the differing control philosophies applicable to the two systems. The similarities and differences together with the design approach to minimize the effects of equipment failure will be reviewed.
