Awards

The IRSE Australasian Section seeks to develop its younger members, and also seeks for the wider membership to benefit from the cutting-edge knowledge that younger members bring. To assist this, the Australasian Section provides the above mentioned award to the Australasian Section younger member who prepares and presents the best technical paper at an Australasian Section Technical Meeting.

The award is announced at the Annual General Meeting.

The prize for the award is:

• A certificate
• Sponsorship towards attendance at an IRSE Australasian Section Technical Meeting (notionally up to $2,000, or such amount as the Committee of Management may decide from time to time)
  • The sponsorship includes travel, accommodation, meals and registration at that Technical Meeting
  • The registration expense will usually be directly charged to the IRSE Australasian Section (e.g. by using a code in the event registration application), but is included in the total sponsorship value
  • The other expenses are reimbursed upon presentation of receipts after attendance at the IRSE Australasian Section Technical Meeting
• It is expected that the winner will present a report on the Technical Meeting attended using the award at an IRSE Local Meeting in their home state
  • The report should include a summary of the Technical Meeting and any significant learnings gained
  • It is expected that the report will be presented within 12 months after the Technical Meeting.

A person is eligible for the award if:

• They presented a technical paper at an Australasian Section Technical Meeting in the preceding calendar year; and
• They were 35 years of age or under when the technical paper was presented; and
• They are currently a financial member (at any grade) of the Australasian Section; and
• They prepared and presented the technical paper individually
  • Plagiarism is unacceptable and the paper must not include uncredited content authored by others. However, it is understood and accepted that others may have reviewed and commented upon the paper during its development.

The criteria for the assessment are:

• Originality of ideas and concepts
• Advancement of the science of signalling
• Quality of presentation and delivery.

The Assessment Panel will consist of the three immediate past Chairpersons of the Australasian Section.

The award is at the sole discretion of the Assessment Panel. If no technical paper is deemed satisfactory, then no award is given. The decision of the Assessment Panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
