201410 – Fargher & Porter – The Auckland Electrification Experience

The Auckland Electrification Project was a NZ$1.5bn project to electrify the existing Auckland Metro Rail Network.

Electrification is a huge step towards building a modern, sustainable rail network for Auckland that along with improved service levels and increased capacity will ensure the rail network is ready and able to deal with the future population demands of the city.

In addition to significant performance advantages, electric trains provide environmental benefits such as improved local air quality and reduced noise and vibration so they are more compatible with the intensified development along rail corridors envisaged by the Regional Growth Strategy.
