The final implementation of the Adelaide Yard Resignalling will be undertaken as part of Contract 100. The scope of this contract covers the work in the Adelaide Yard area and extends 2.2 km on the Gawler line and along the quadruple lines to Goodwood, about 6 km from Adelaide Station.
Since the original study the development of computerised interlockings had reached the stage where this option was included in the tender.
This option which makes Adelaide Yard the first SS1 installation in Australia and was taken up for the following reasons:
– The area set aside for a relay room can now be used for other purposes with resultant cost saving to STA.
– Relay rooms at Mile End, Goodwood and Keswick are not necessary.
– The reduction in cost of multi-core signalling cables.
– First line maintenance much quicker.
– Fault diagnostics and reporting is automatic.
The Contract, awarded to a Joint Venture between O’Donnell Griffin and K Engineering, has been in progress for about year now. SS1 interlocking is Design work on the progressing subcontractor, Westinghouse (U.K.). by their Local design has reached the checking stage and site works are in progress in the Yard.
Eventually the Contractor will supply and install a1 l the equipment necessary including new tail cables, to operate the EH switch machines, installed by the STA personnel during the Yard stageworks, from the SSI. The final cut over will be done at commissioning.
