This paper entitled “Project Overview and Operational Requirements” describes the performance specification for the South and Western Line CTC systems replacement. A brief background history, justifications for replacement and benefits are also explained.
It is the first of three papers to be presented on the Australian National’s South and Western Line Centralised Traffic Control System at this conference.
Motorola Communications will present the second paper on the Radio Communications and Telemetry systems while the third paper by MITS Limited describes the Central Control Workstation Network.
The two telemetry systems on the South Line and the one on the Western Line were replaced in three stages as follows:-
1. One contract to replace the Cutler Hammer and the Westronic F-l control systems and field equipment on the South Line, by a single telemetry system and a state-of-the-art computerised central control workstation, based at Mile End.
2. An extension of the above contract to replace the Teknis telemetry system and control terminal and the CTC poleline communication bearer on the Western Line, by a telemetry system and workstation identical to Item 1 and a data radio based CTC communication network.
3. Replacement of the South Line CTC poleline communication bearer by a data radio communication network, identical to that of Item 2.
