Shining Light Award
Purpose
The IRSE Australasian Section manages the Graduate Diploma of Railway Signalling course and supports the course as a core element in developing competent signalling engineers. To encourage people to participate in the course, the Australasian Section provides the above mentioned award to the student who achieves the best results throughout the course.
Announcement
The award is announced at the Annual General Meeting.
Prize
The prize for the award is:
- A certificate
- Sponsorship towards attendance at an IRSE Australasian Section Technical Meeting (notionally up to $2,000, or such amount as the Committee of Management may decide from time to time)
- The sponsorship includes travel, accommodation, meals and registration at that Technical Meeting
- The registration expense will usually be directly charged to the IRSE Australasian Section (e.g. by using a code in the event registration application), but is included in the total sponsorship value
- The other expenses are reimbursed upon presentation of receipts after attendance at the IRSE Australasian Section Technical Meeting
- It is expected that the winner will present a report on the Technical Meeting attended using the award at an IRSE Local Meeting in their home state
- The report should include a summary of the Technical Meeting and any significant learnings gained
- It is expected that the report will be presented within 12 months after the Technical Meeting.
Eligibility
A person is eligible for the award if:
- They completed the Graduate Diploma of Railway Signalling course in the preceding calendar year; and
- They are currently a financial member (at any grade) of the Australasian Section.
Criteria
The criteria for the assessment is the best results throughout the Graduate Diploma of Railway Signalling course.
Assessment
The Assessment Panel will consist of the Professional Education Committee in consultation with the course provider. Should there be a tie, an Assessment Panel consisting of the two immediate past Chairpersons of the Australasian Section and the current Chairperson of the Professional Education Committee shall decide the winner – they may consult the teaching team.
The award is at the sole discretion of the Assessment Panels. If no student is deemed satisfactory, then no award is given. The decision of the Assessment Panels is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
