When in 1945 War in Europe was over, and Austria had regained her independence from Germany, our generation and distribution authorities had to face an entirely new situation.

During the period of German occupation the Austrian power supply system had, at least partly, been adapted to the requirements of greater Germany, thus neglecting to a certain extent the exigencies of Austria herself, where the energy came from.

Now the power system had to be re-established and extended in due consideration of the new economical and political facts. New ideas became apparent, and the most recent progress in technical and scientific developments had to be considered.

This task, as I may say without exaggeration, was mastered by the Austrian industry, especially on the electrical section, in a really splendid manner. It is neither a mere phrase nor is it a contradiction to what I have said before that Austria was perfectly aware of her European importance and responsibility on the power sector when planning the further extension of her power system.
