Each year the Confederation of British Industries offer Overseas Scholarships for practical engineering training in the United Kingdom. Each candidate nominates his own field of study and I was fortunate enough to obtain a scholarship to study Remote Control Systems as applied to Railway Signalling.
In this paper I shall briefly describe, the various systems encountered and leave some time for questions. The program of the scholarship basically consisted of 6 months training with G.E.C. General Signal Co., 3 months with Westinghouse, Brake and Signal Co., and finally 3 months with British Railways. Three weeks were spent with each of Railweight and W. & T. Avery on the study of electronic weighbridges so if time permits some questions can be directed on this subject.
