Communication facilities were required for transferring Stores data between the Stores Branch at Midland and the host computer at Westrail centre. Full duplex links at 4800 bits/sec were provided. Design was for maximum of 15 minutes elapsed time from link failure to full recovery and consequently stand-by links were necessary.
Information is provided on Modem and Route selection, Main and Standby data links, method of adjustment of Modem for optimum operation and the data link peripheral switching for the system. Telephone and interfacing arrangements are provided for direct dialling of urgent orders from anywhere within the railway network.
