As mentioned in the Introduction, the Signal Engineer in 1967 was faced with the problem of what type of signalling should be provided and the decision was taken to adhere to one which would be compatible with the existing rolling stock and signalling because of the probable need for integration of the old and new systems.
The system provided was therefore .similar to that installed between Central and Wynyard and from Central to St. James via Circular Quay with certain modifications as outlined.
