I’ve been employed with V/Line for 24 years holding various positions from Station Assistant progressing to Stationmaster, and then Train Controller.
Prior to the introduction of Train to Base Radio communication between Train Control and Train Crews was very limited, any information or instructions to Crews ad to be given via Stations by Stopping trains and relaying Controls Instructions.
Drivers having Engine failure or Level Crossing accidents & other emergencies depending on their locations could be up to 20 minutes before Train Control advised of is situation.
