The first Integrated Electronic Control Centre developed very successfully by British Rail was installed at Liverpool Street and has been in operation over 12 months. It has found enthusiastic acceptance by the signalmen, was installed on time and operated faultlessly from day 1. A large measure of its success is due to the optimisation strategy included within the Automatic Route Setting subsystem which took many years to develop. The Liverpool S tree t installation has begun a new era of Integrated Control Systems that will be progressively installed through the 1990s, ultimately leading to the control of a Region from one control centre.
