This paper describes the application of a second generation Solid State Signalling System to extend a conventional signalling relay interlocking. The system, required by Australian National to control access to their new Motive Power Centre, extends the capability of the existing interlocking with the use of distributed, vital logic, processing facilities at two sites and linked via vital and non vital telemetry systems. The paper evaluates the special attributes of Solid State Signalling Systems which have proved particularly suitable for implementing non-standard applications like this in addition to other standard applications.
