Technical Meeting Paper

201410 – Neilson & Hood – Auckland Electrification Principles and Configuration

This paper provides the background to the decisions leading up to the design and construction of the electrification of the Auckland metro railway network and reviews the key technical decisions that were required along the way. It also provides an outline of all the significant components that were delivered by the project and some of the special considerations necessary.

At the time of writing, the electrification project is largely commissioned with some scheduled electric train services implemented. As with many major projects, there are always developments, design change and optimisation during the journey from commencement to delivery and final commissioning.
